Commentary: Republicans march openly to plutocracy

The only mystery left is why millions of middle-class Americans play along with this rule by the wealthy and cast their vote for the plutocrats.

Part of the explanation in this electoral cycle is the virtual disappearance of the Democrats as a countervailing force. In order to succeed in an environment that allows rich people to spend as much as they want to get someone elected, Democratic politicians feel that they too must pander to the very wealthy and embrace their conservative policies.
